Last year today during the midst of finals week at FIDM, I decided to yet again embark on a year long drawing a day project.
This time around, I had a set word for each month which was chosen out of a hat of suggestions at random; it never dawned on me that a one word per month could get real old real fast. Now I know. It was almost draining trying to think of different interpretations of it and deterred me from participating on certain days (but I forced myself to).
It got interesting having to work full time: I’d get home late and have other things to do that were more important than my drawing of the day, and then sleepily sketch before bed only to repeat everything the day after. Honestly, a lot of my project felt half-assed.
I discovered how much I missed big projects over the course of this year. Remember when I used to do actual paintings and spend time on them? Yeah, me too.
Having said this, I decided not to continue with my daily drawings. I’m going to focus more on projects that take more than one sitting to complete. Take more time with my work and perfect it to my liking.
Lots of changes will happen in this coming year, and I’m ready to take them on with full force.
Thank you everyone for your support! It means a lot to me.
